Rolls-Royce footman / chauffeur light lamp. Limousines of yesteryear had a staff of two. Before the era of owner drivers The chauffeur was responsible for the motor car. It was the footman’s duty, to attend to the passengers. Check out early Rolls-Royce motor cars the chauffer’s seat was higher than the front seat passengers. This seat is the footman’s seat. THIS IS AN ULTRA SCARCE CHAUFFEUR / FOOTMANS COURTESY LIGHT. STOWED INSIDE THE CAR SOMETIMES ON THE DASHBOARD. HUNG OUTSIDE TO WELCOME PASSENGERS WHILE THEY ARE ASSISTED INSIDE OR WHEN THEY ALIGHT. I have no history for this particular light, but it may have been for a significant former owner The gentry or Maharaja. The birdcage top screws off, a new easily installed wire flex is needed. Note this was an extremely complex light to make. Though not marked I suspect it was made either in the Rolls-Royce workshops or By Lucas. For those interested in History it closely resembles the later Lucas lamps supplied to Rolls-Royce. Though the later ones are much larger. I post daily where possible, and pack in new materials.
