Antique NIER Feuerhand Firehand Nr. 260 Kerosene Lantern withGlobe All Fully Marked
Antique NIER Feuerhand Firehand Nr. 260 Kerosene Lantern w/Globe All Fully Marked. Excellent vintage condition for Pre WWII era. The lighting lever, wick knob and fill cap all in working condition. Nier Feuerhand (fire in hand) logo. Embossed on glass globe, base, fill cap, and top cover with Made in Germany on the glass, base and burner. Height with Handle Extended: 17 ½. Weight: 2 lbs 8.4 oz. The Feuerhand story begins in the 1870s in the Saxon Ore Mountains in Eastern Germany. Here, Hermann Nier, operating out of a small silverware workshop, made miners lamps and household lanterns. As industrialization spread, Harmann and his brother Ernst established a dedicated factory to produce kerosene lanterns. Later generations of the Neir family continued to run the Neir Feuerhand Company, eventually becoming the world biggest lantern producer in the 1930s. Collectors of Feuerhand lanterns can easily distinguish pre-war lanterns, as they were all stamped “Made in Germany” but all post-war lanterns are stamped with W. Only a few minor age related wear.
